I believe FN stopped matching barrel serial numbers to receivers in '53, so my '46 would have had a barrel with matching SN, originally. Looking for advice on whether it makes sense to spend $300-$500 on an FN barrel - as close to '46 as possible ...James Porter Copper BB. Their site says the W (for B78) should be the last character in the serial number and should be preceded by the last two digits of the year of manufacture. My serial number is 1586W37.

I can't make your date code look like any of the examples, but it might not be the original barrel. An early 1956 gun would probably have a barrel made in 1955.
