The P0842 code can be set by a bad earth/ground connection (as can many DTC's) and in a Subaru this is one of the common reasons for seemingly random codes. Make sure you check the main earth/ground connection for the transmission as the P0842 code is a transmission code and the P0700 code is also set by the transmission. Since you are having other weird electrical issues, I'd first look to see whether you have a bad connection somewhere. P0700 just refers to a transmission problem of sorts. So first let me state original problem was a P0700 and another code indicating a failed solinoid, (don't recall but believe it was P2764). I pulled out the valve body and replaced that solenoid (however the resistance measured in spec).Outback 2011 3.6R - Shift shock, then P0700 and P1710 ... It's a magnetic sensor (no gears) mounted on the valve body. There's a number of threads here, and in other Subaru forums, about the code. Do a Title search (Advanced Search) for P1710, and look at those threads as well as the others linked in the various posts.
